Twelve killed in Syrian mass demonstrations

Azerbaijan, Baku, November 18 / Trend, A. Tagiyeva /

Security forces killed 12 people during the mass Friday demonstrations in Syria.
The mass Friday demonstrations attended by thousands of protesters, who back ambassadors' recall from the country, occur in Syria today.

Following the results of a meeting of the Arab League Foreign Ministers in Morocco yesterday, the League submitted its proposals envisioning work of a team of observers in the territory of Syria for consideration to official Damascus and expects it to reply within not later than 3 days. Syrian representatives did not attend the meeting.

At an extraordinary meeting of the Arab League Foreign Ministers held at the Leagues' Cairo Headquarters last Saturday, it was decided to suspend the Syrian delegation's participation in the League's work in connection with the continuing violence in the country. The Arab League urged its member states to recall their ambassadors from Damascus, and threatened to apply economic and political sanctions against Syria.

Nonstop anti-governmental protests have been continuing in Syria for eight months. The UN claims the number of clash victims in the country exceeded 3,500. The Syrian authorities say more than 1,500 were killed from both sides, including more than 1,100 law enforcers. .
