Jordan's king meets EU envoys, condemns Israeli incursion in Gaza

( dpa ) - King Abdullah II of Jordan on Sunday condemned the latest Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip and expressed concern over the "deteriorating humanitarian situation" in the Palestinian territory.

"The king praised the positive role being played by the EU countries to alleviate the sufferings of the Palestinian people and to achieve a progress in the peace process," the king was quoted in a royal court statement as having told EU ambassadors in Jordan.

He also underscored the importance of the EU role in supporting ongoing negotiations and asked the EU to help pressure Israel to "refrain from taking any measures that could peace particularly the settlement activity," the statement said.
