Defending champion Greece on Monday got their Euro preparations off to a good start with a 2-0 friendly victory against
Cyprus in Patras.
Greece, who sensationally won the 2004 Euro in Portugal, dominated the game in
front of 22,000 fans.
18-year-old talent Sotiris Ninis was the best player for his side and scored
the opening goal in the fifth minute. Kostas Katsouranis scored the second on
the hour from the penalty spot.
Greek coach Otto Rehhagel gave six under-21 players a chance to play as several
first team regulars were missing from the squad.
Greece will be playing a friendly against Hungary in Budapest before embarking
on a training camp in Germany. The team will travel to Austria on 3 June for the competition, where they will face Sweden, Russia and Spain in Group D, dpa reported.
