Viktor Yanukovich, leader of the Party of Regions, doubts that early parliamentary elections may be prevented in Ukraine. According to UNIAN, he made the statement on 25 September.

"Should we find any decision satisfactory from the political standpoint, we will undoubtedly do our utmost to prevent early elections. But we will probably fail to do this," said Yanukovich.

"We see this performance between the Block of Yulia Timoshenko and the Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defence bloc regarding establishment of a new coalition, Yanukovich said, adding that this is intended to delay the time, to destabilize the situation and to achieve early elections.

Yanukovich believes those political forces need destabilization, as presidential elections will take place in a year.

"This way they want to win their opponents - the Party of regions, he said.

Aleksandr Efremov, Deputy Chairman of the Party of Regions parliamentary group, said to journalists on 25 September that presidium of the Party of Regions had decided to stop talks with all parliamentary groups regarding possible establishment of a coalition, until the 'orange' forces coordinate configuration of the coalition.
