A suicide bomber driving an explosive-filled vehicle targeted a US military base in eastern part of capital Kabul Tuesday, wounding at least five civilians, witnesses and officials said, DPA reported.

"The bomber hit the US base. There was a big explosion, the smoke is still coming out of the area," Abdul Ghani, a shopkeeper in the area said.

Abdul Shukoor, a police official in the area, said US soldiers had cordoned off the area and it was difficult for him to say if there were casualties among the foreign troops.

"Our forces evacuated five wounded civilians from the area," he said.
