A 14-year-old schoolgirl has been detained in Spain on suspicion of killing another girl, 13, who went to the same school, judicial sources said Monday.

Cristina Martin was given a burial Monday in Sesena near the central city of Toledo, DPA reported.

Martin's body was found Saturday in the bottom of a 3.5-metre-deep pit. She had died of bleeding after having been beaten and cut with a sharp object.

Police detained Martin's schoolmate who was known to have been on bad terms with the victim.

If the suspect is found guilty, she will face up to five years' confinement in a youth centre, following which she could be placed on parole for three years.
