Michael Ballack came through a successful test match Sunday to pave the way for his debut next week for Bayer Leverkusen following his move from Chelsea, dpa reported.

Ballack, 33, played the full 90 minutes in a match held behind closed doors against third-division Wehen Wiesbaden.

The midfielder has not played since tearing ligaments in his right ankle playing in the FA Cup final for Chelsea against Portsmouth on May 15, an injury which sidelined him for the World Cup in South Africa.

Ballack did not feature in Leverkusen's 11-1 German Cup victory over fifth-division Pirmasens on Saturday.

The test match Sunday was arranged at short notice, with Ballack captaining the side in a 4-0 victory thanks to goals from Tranquillo Barnetta, Eren Derdiyok, Michal Kadlec and Marcel Risse.

Leverkusen begin their Bundesliga season with a visit to Borussia Dortmund on Sunday.
