Five shot in Colombian park

Unknown assailants opened fire apparently indiscriminately at a festival in a park in Medellin, Colombia, Sunday, killing five people, dpa reported.

The attackers shot from a passing taxi into a celebration in the park marking the Day of Love and Friendship, officials said. The motive of the attack was unclear, but they would not rule out a turf war between rival gangs.

At least two children were among the dead.

The city of 2 million is the second largest in Colombia and was plagued by drug violence under Pablo Escobar's cartel in the 1980s. Crime has fallen since he was killed in 1993 even as paramilitary groups continue to fight for supremacy.
