A strong quake of 6.2 magnitude struck off Ternate of North Maluku province in eastern parts of Indonesia on Friday, but it was not potential for tsunami and there was no immediate report of damages or casualty, officials said here, Xinhua reported.
The quake jolted at 12:43 p.m. Jakarta time (0543 GMT) with epicenter at 225 km northeast Ternate and with the depth at 110 km under sea bed, Rahma Sarita, an official of the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency, told Xinhua.
The intensity of the quake was felt at 4 MMI (Modified Mercally Intensity) at Tobelo and Galela, she said.
The USGS reported on its website that the quake was measured at 6.3 magnitude.
Senior official at the provincial Disaster Management Agency who goes with single name Amiruddin told Xinhua by phone from Ternate that there were no building collapsed or those injured so far.
Indonesia sits on a vulnerable quake-hit zone, also called the "Pacific Rinf of Fire".
