Michael Phelps anchored the US 4x200 metres freestyle relay team to gold at the London Games on Tuesday to gain sole possession of the all-time Olympic medals record at 19, dpa reported.
Phelps brought his Olympic tally since 2004 to 15 gold, two silver and two bronze. He had won 200m butterfly silver an hour earlier to equal the 18 medals Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina won between 1956 and 1964 (nine gold, five silver and four bronze).
