Turkish banks should not interfere in political events, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan said, 'Anadolu' agency reported on Wednesday.

"Banks have to explain their depositors the real essence of the events in the country," Babacan said.

Earlier, Turkish media reported that on the background of the events taking place in various cities of Turkey's most depositors withdrew their money from banks.

Turkish Banks Association has not commented on this information.

For more than two weeks, protests have been continuing in various cities of Turkey. According to the authorities, the protests already have anti-government character.

It is expected that today the Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan will meet with a delegation of protesters in Taksim Square.
