Timeframe for completion of railway construction in Turkish province disclosed

The GAZIRAY new railway system will be constructed in Turkey’s Gaziantep province in 2020, Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend on Sept. 20.

According to the ministry, the total project cost is 1.2 billion Turkish liras. The length of the railway in Gaziantep province is 25 kilometers.

"Five kilometers of the GAZIRAY new railway system will account for an underground tunnel, and 800 million Turkish liras have been allocated for its construction,” the ministry said.

Seventeen stations, one bridge, eight underpasses and six overpasses will also be built as part of the project.

"The construction of the railway was launched in May 2014 and the project has been completed by more than 65 percent," the ministry said.

The first railway was built in 1860 in Turkey’s western Izmir province, its length was 357 kilometers.
