DEFINITION OF CASPIAN DELIMITATION PRINCIPLES REMAINS MAJOR PROBLEM IN NEGOTIATIONS AMONG CASPIAN STATES вЂ" AZERI FM

The definition of principles of delimitation of the Caspian Sea remains to be a major problem in the talks on the development of a Convention on defining the legal status of the sea, Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister, the special representative of the President on the Caspian diplomacy, told journalists on Thursday.

“We have resolved the issue only on trilateral basis, while the issue is still to be accorded on pentalateral format,” he noted. According to Khalafov, there a number of aspects, which are actually part of the project on Convention on the Caspian legal status, which should be processes for bringing the positions closer.

Other important issues which the working group should consider is the demilitarization, or presence of the armed forces in the Caspian, issues of passage of vessels through the continental countries to world pecans and world seas, as well as issues concerning the definition of limits of fishing zone, use of the water surface, the water basin of the Caspian sea.
