A two-day regional forum on “Public Involvement in Discussions of Azerbaijan’s bio-diversity bill” within the program “East-East” will start in Baku on 12 August, Trend reports.
Experts from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russia, Bbulgaria, Ukraine, Kirgiziya and other will take part in the forum. Participation of the minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Huseyn Bagirov is envisioned.
At the regional event there will be reports on the specified draft law, on significance of the legal basis by securing the bio-diversity. The issue of the public involvement in the process of joining Azerbaijan to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and ensuring bio-security of the population, monitoring of the situation in Azerbaijan, biological safety of Caucasus and other will be under discussion.
Besides, the participants will get reports on organisms with modified genetics and the related problems.Experts think there exists danger for genetic resources of Azerbaijan and to avert it there is a great necessity to inform the population.
The event is held under the financial support of the Foundation of monitoring of environmental standards in Azerbaijan and the Open Society Institute.
