A report about the ongoing work on the preparation of the unified state register of roads, as well as the rules of their numbering by digital signs was submitted at a regular meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, the country's government said March 28.
"This document will contain the necessary information about the location, name, category, length of roads and technical specifications," the statement said.
It was reported in late December 2014 that an interactive map of the country's roads was created on the basis of the Geographic Information Systems under the Academy of Sciences
of Turkmenistan.
"The program envisages systematization, keeping and constant updating the information," the statement said. "It will help engineers in the construction and operation services," the statement said.
It was reported in September that the Memorandum of Understanding for the development of the Euro-Asian road transport links across the territory of Turkmenistan was signed between the government of Turkmenistan and International Road Transport Union (IRU) in Ashgabat.
IRU represents the interests of motor carriers of Europe, America, Asia, Africa. The organization consists of over 180 members from 74 countries.
