US reduces import of Azerbaijani oil by over 10%

The US imported 8.4 million barrels of oil from Azerbaijan in January-November 2014 compared to 9.37 million barrels in the same period of 2013, the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) said Jan. 30.

The US imported 1.05 million barrels of Azerbaijani oil in November 2014, according to the statement. No Azerbaijani oil was imported by the US in November 2013.

The country imported 10.41 million barrels of oil from Azerbaijan in 2013, compared to 8.83 million barrels in 2012.

The main export route for the transportation of Azerbaijani oil is the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline via which oil is delivered to the Turkish port of Ceyhan.

Azerbaijan's light oil is also exported from Georgia's Supsa port where it is delivered via the Baku-Supsa pipeline.

Moreover, oil is also exported from Georgia's Batumi port in the Black Sea where it is delivered via the railway from Baku, as well as from the Novorossiysk port via the Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline.
