Tehran has proposed to Russia's Gazprom that the company carry out a number of projects in Iran for storing natural gas.

The proposal was delivered by Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh to Russian Minister of Energy Alexander Novak on the sidelines of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) summit which was held in Tehran from November 20 to 23.

Calling Russia a post-sanctions partner to Iran, Zanganeh said that Iran has invited Russian companies to carry out underground natural gas storage projects in Iran, Mehr news agency reported November 25.

So far, the National Iranian Oil Company and National Iranian Gas Company have carried out two huge natural gas storage projects at Qom Province and Razavi Khorasan Province.

Since the beginning of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 21), when Iran boosted producing gas production at the super-giant South Pars field, it has increased its underground gas storage, especially at the facilities in Razavi Khorasan Province.

During the period, Iran has stored some 900 million cubic meters of gas in that storage which shows 106 percent increase in comparison to the amount stored in the same period of last year.
