By Maksim Tsurkov – Trend:

Bulgaria confirms its interest in implementation of the Southern Gas Corridor project, designed to transport Azerbaijani gas to Europe, Zhecho Stankov, Bulgarian deputy energy minister, said.

Stankov made the remarks at a meeting of the Azerbaijan-Bulgaria intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation in Baku Sept. 29.

He said Bulgaria is currently diversifying gas supplies to the country by forming interconnections and constructing pipelines between itself, Turkey and Greece.

“Both Southern Gas Corridor and Gas Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB) projects are supported by the Bulgarian government,” he said. “Creating a pipeline network will provide the countries of Southern and Eastern Europe with an access to the Southern Gas Corridor.”

“The IGB project is of national importance and it is included in the list of priority projects of the European Commission,” he said.
