Azerbaijan proposes to create a nuclear-free zone in the South Caucasus. It was Azerbaijani Minister of Industry and Energy Natig Aliyev who put forward this initiative at the meeting with a delegation led by Deputy Chairman of the Georgian Parliament Fridon Todua, the Ministry told Trend on Wednesday.

Spokesman for the ministry Azer Mensimli said that Mr Aliyev informed the Georgian delegation on Azerbaijan's concern over the Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant endangering all the region's countries.

Azerbaijan proposed Georgia to support the closure of this nuclear power plant. The proposal was supported by Deputy Chairman of the Georgian Parliament. He added that after he returns to Tbilisi, he will inform the state bodies and the public.

The sides also discussed the cooperation in energy field, the development of joint projects, the strategic cooperation and its prospects.
