Labeling of tobacco products and alcoholic beverages imported into Turkmenistan for sale, as well as domestically produced alcoholic drinks with additional excise stamps will be introduced in Turkmenistan starting from April 1, 2016.
These measures have been approved by the decree of the president of Turkmenistan within the framework of the law "On protection of the health of citizens from exposure to tobacco smoke and consequences of tobacco consumption", the Code of Turkmenistan "On taxes" and the action plan for tobacco control for 2012-2016.
In accordance with the document, starting from July 1, 2016, the sale of tobacco products and alcoholic beverages is prohibited on the territory of Turkmenistan without additional excise stamps of Turkmenistan.
The document was adopted for state regulation of trade and tobacco products turnover, alcoholic beverages in Turkmenistan, exclusion of the possibility of the sale of tobacco products and alcoholic beverages produced by counterfeiting or illegally transported across the border.
The following agencies providing the preparation, registration and distribution of additional excise stamps have been established: the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan responsible for tobacco products and alcoholic beverages imported in Turkmenistan, the Main State Tax Service of Turkmenistan responsible for domestically produced alcoholic beverages.
