By Mehdi Sepahvand -- Trend:

A senior Iranian MP says the Parliament is always supportive of the government and occasional strictness on the nuclear talks has only served national interests.

The Parliament strongly believed in the talks and some strictness was only necessary to counter the US congress and excessive demands made by the opposite side, Abuzar Nadimi, first deputy chairman of the Parliament's Economic Commission, told Trend July 20.

The sanctions damaged Iran by billions of dollars each year and the Parliament worked alongside the government to help remove them, he said.

On July 14 Iran reached a comprehensive deal on its nuclear program with the group P5+1 (the US, UK, France, Russia, China, and Germany) to help lift the economic sanctions.

Commenting on the Parliament's cooperation with the government in the post-sanctions era, Nadimi said the Parliament is generally in agreement with the government regarding the sanctions and economy in large.

A few MPs do not represent the Parliament's totality and their opinion is not that of the Parliament as a legislative body, he said, pointing to opposition voices in the Parliament that used to speak against the nuclear talks.

Regarding growing talks between the Iranian government and western counterparts after the nuclear deal, Nadimi said Parliament supports the government and will facilitate new economic cooperation opportunities that the government tries to establish.

As the EU's strongest economy, Germany has been the forerunner in sending an economic delegation to Iran after the nuclear deal. German industrial giants along with tens of smaller companies, headed by Germany's Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Sigmar Gabriel, are here in Tehran to discuss economic cooperation. Linde, Siemens, Mercedes, BASF, Volkswagen Group, and GIZ are among the big German companies whose representatives accompany the delegation.
