Iran has rejected reports that a US internet company that works with the American defense sector is providing internet services to Tehran.

The Telecommunication Infrastructure Company, which provides Iran's internet, has no contract with the GTT, Mohammad Reza Farnaghizadeh, head of the Public Relations Office at Iran's Communications and Information Technology Ministry, told Trend Nov. 4.

Internet access to Iran is exclusively carried out by Telecommunication Infrastructure Company(TIC) of the ICT ministry, Farnaghizadeh said, underlining that the company has not signed a contract with GTT Communications Inc.

Earlier, Western media reported that GTT, the technology company that counts the US Defense Department as its largest customer, was providing internet service to Iran.

The report claims, according to technical data, that GTT had provided internet service to Iran for months.

The company began providing bandwidth to Iran's state-owned TIC, via one of Gulf Bridge's submarine cables on June 10, Doug Madory, the director of analysis at Dyn, a research company that monitors internet connectivity, told The Daily Beast.

Early this week, the Iranian Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Mahmoud Vaezi, also denied reports that an official from US telecommunication company AT&T is an advisor to the national Iranian data network project.

AT&T is an American multinational telecommunications corporation. It is the second largest provider of mobile telephones and the largest provider of fixed telephones in the United States.
