Ukraine has decided to suspend its term of rotating presidency in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the head of Information Policy Department of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Yevgen Perebyinis said in a briefing, ITAR-TASS reported.

"Ukraine has made a decision to suspend its term of rotating presidency in the CIS. The relevant note will be sent on March 19," Perebyinis said.

The representative of Ukraine's Foreign Ministry explained that this decision was made because the CIS member-states do not comply with the terms of the agreement signed with the establishment of the Commonwealth.

"Ukraine reserves its right to consider the advisability of continued participation in the CIS," Perebyinis added.

On March 14 the Ukrainian parliament registered a draft law on denunciation of the agreement establishing the CIS. The document was proposed by the MP from the Batkivshchina (Fatherland) faction, former Foreign Minister, Borys Tarasyuk. Earlier the country's acting Foreign Minister Andrew Deshchytsa stated that Ukraine intends to leave the CIS due to the inability of the organization to serve as a tool to resolve conflicts among its members.
