U.S Assistant Secretary of State Philip Gordon said that the United States did not impose an embargo on arms supplies to Georgia.

"Georgia is a sovereign state. It has the right to defend itself," he said, replying to journalists' questions about the supply of weapons to Georgia.

The United States appreciate the contribution that Georgia has made to the peacekeeping operation in Afghanistan, and will continue to cooperate with it in the military sphere, he added.

Russia calls for imposing an arms embargo on Georgia.
