Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept. 5 / Trend T. Hajiyev /

Adopting the law on "Juvenile justice" in Azerbaijan will provide an opportunity to solve the existing problems related to child protection, UNICEF Baku Office Head Mark Hereward told Trend.

He said that this organization is interested in adopting the law on "Juvenile justice" and takes an active part in its preparation.

He said that the bill will be discussed and adopted at the autumn session of the Azerbaijani Parliament.

The law was not accepted because of the changes that should be included in the relevant regulations, he said.

"It is necessary to amend the existing legal acts before the law is implemented," he said. There is some delay while adopting the bill."

Stressing the dissatisfaction of the government, the parliament and UNICEF with the juvenile justice in Azerbaijan, the representative of the organization said that it is necessary to take appropriate measures to protect children's rights.

UNICEF implements the pilot projects in this area, he said. He stressed that it is necessary to create special rooms for children and legal clinics in the police. The actions are taken in this area.

Adopting the law will improve the situation in this area and eliminate the existing problems.
