YARAT! Contemporary Art Space presented the 'Manimals' project of the American artist Mark Jenkins, as well as master class students' projects for the urban environment on the topic of Animal Planet under the direction of Jenkins within the framework of Participate Baku Public Art Festival, Trend Life reported.
The event was attended by the founder of the YARAT! Contemporary Art Space Aida Mahmudova, prominent public figures and well-known culture and art personalities.
The installations, which were created by the American artist and his students, were presented to the audience at Fountain Square in Baku.
"Our project is organized within the framework of Participate Baku Public Art Festival. I have been conducting master classes for young artists for two weeks. We were creating art objects from the packing adhesive tape. Our task is to create an interesting, educational project for the urban environment," Jenkins said.
The project involved five young beginner artists - Aysel Rehimli, Seyare Neymatova, Shargiya Hasanova, Sabina Najafova, Nina Narimanova, who presented 10 works.
The project's curator is Naila Allahverdiyeva.
"All the time, we were working on the project, we developed various ideas, wanted to do something creative. Learning how to create the installations from adhesive tape was easy and very interesting. I can say that, I have never done anything interesting in my life than this project," the project participant Aysel Rehimli said.
"We had a great pleasure working on the project. Working with Mark Jenkins was very interesting and informative. We wanted to show with our works that the animals should be taken care of, they should be treated with attention and compassion," the project participant Sabina Najafova said.
Mark Jenkins, born in 1970 in Fairfax (Virginia, USA), is a contemporary American artist and a representative of the street art, known for sculptures made of transparent film and tape. His works were noted in a number of publications of The Washington Post and The Independent, as well as in the famous blog, Woostercollective.com, dedicated to the international urban art.
In addition, the artist's works were exhibited in galleries of the United States, Continental Europe, Brazil and the UK.
Mark Jenkins created a website tapesculpture.org with step by step instructions on making sculptures from the film, as well as conducts master classes in the cities he visits.
Currently, Mark Jenkins lives in the U.S capital of Washington.
