The court sentenced the defendants of the riots in Kazakh Shetpe station to probation and four to seven years imprisonment in the colony, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported.

The court released seven people for lack of proof, sentenced one defendant to two years of probation and three defendants to four, five and seven years imprisonment.

On December 17, 2011 a group of people blocked the railway traffic, dismantled road and damaged transport infrastructure at the Shetpe station of Mangistau region. The normal operation of railway transport was interrupted as a result and seven passengers and nine freight trains were delayed. The police trying to stop these unlawful acts were attacked with guns, Molotov cocktails and stones. The rioters injured five officers.

After some warning shots, police officers were forced to use weapons. About 11 people were injured and one shot dead as a result. The investigation established that the police used guns legally.

The case was filed against 12 people. The defendants are charged with organizing mass riots by using violence, arsons, destruction of property, violence against authoritative representative and deliberate destruction of vehicles or roads.
