PJAK terrorist cell is to be dismantled soon through the measures of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Iranian Intelligence Minister Heidar Moslehi said on Wednesday, ISNA reported.
Moslehi speaking to reporters on the sidelines of cabinet meeting, added, "IRGC has taken due acts to confront the terrorist group and it has gained successful achievements."
He went on to say, "Iran has handled the group and thwarted their plots to be carried out inside the country. We believe the group is to be destroyed soon."
Iranian Intelligence Minister added, "we have found some clues regarding PJAK terrorist group and hope to get good results resorting the clues."
Mid-July, the IRGC disbanded the PJAK cell early , following hours-long gun battle between the two sides in the northwestern city of Sardasht, situated 472 kilometers (293 miles) west of the Iranian capital of Tehran in the West Azarbaijan Province. Later, the IRGC announced that it had taken full control of a camp linked to the PJAK terrorist cell near the Iraqi border.
Iran has recently deployed 5,000 military forces in the northwest of the country along its common border with the Iraqi Kurdistan region.
The purpose of the deployment is holding military maneuvers with the aim of stabilizing the border area and fighting counterrevolutionary groups.
PJAK is an offshoot of the internationally-recognized terrorist group, the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which conducts deadly operations in western Iran, northern Iraq and southern Turkey. The leader of the group Rahman Haj-Ahmadi is now in Germany.
