Iranian Railways Department Chairman Abdulali Sahib Mohammadi and Chairman of Russian Railways Vladimir Yakunin met in Moscow and discussed issues of mutual interest, IRIB News reported on Saturday.

The meeting discussed connecting the Iranian railway to the Russian railway network through Azerbaijan within the North-South Transnational Corridor project and Russia's involvement in electrification of two lines on the Bask-Tehran railway and the Sufiyan-Razi railway.

Mohammadi arrived in Russia to attend the International Railway Conference.

The North-South Transnational Corridor is a 677km-long railway line connecting the Central Asian countries of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan with Iran and the Persian Gulf. It links Uzen in Kazakhstan with Gyzylgaya-Bereket-Etrek in Turkmenistan and end at Gorgan in Iran's Golestan Province. In Iran, the railway will be connected to national network making its way to the ports of the Persian Gulf.
