The Libyan air force on Sunday carried out air strikes against targets in Misrata, an eastern city allied with the Libya Dawn militant group, which has controlled the capital Tripoli since August, a local official said.
It's the first of such air strikes against sites inside Misrata, some 200 km east of Tripoli.
A local official said that a fighter aircraft launched two strikes, one hitting a military base of the air force academy, while the other targeting the area around an iron and steel plant. No casualties or damage has been reported.
The officials said that anti-aircraft missiles responded to the attack and forced the fighter away.
The Libyan army has warned citizens from approaching sites of the Libya Dawn's forces, as they would be targeted by the air force.
Formed by militia from towns of Misrata, Zawiya, Sabratha and Zuwara, as well as some Tripoli-based formations, the Libya Dawn is the key fighting group the North African country.
Since November, a number of fighter jets have carried out air strikes on military sites of Libya Dawn forces in the cities of Tripoli, Zuwara, Zawiya, Sorman and Gharyan, according to army sources.
