A bus station in Damaturu, capital of northern Nigeria's Yobe State, was hit by a bomb attack Saturday, leaving at least 7 killed and 27 injured, Xinhua reported.

The attack, carried out by a 10-year old female bomber, occurred as she approached a popular motor park at the heart of the city of Damaturu at about 11:45 a.m. local time.

Garba Musa Fika, medical director of the state-run Damaturu Specialists Hospital told reporters that seven lifeless bodies were evacuated from scene of the blast. Twenty-seven others, who sustained various degrees of injury, are currently receiving treatment at the facility, he said.

According to the hospital official, seven out of the 27 wounded people "were critically injured" and might be referred to a tertiary hospital for further medical attention.

Ezekiel Ezeh, an emergency worker, who participated in the rescue work at the scene of the blast told Xinhua that more deaths might be recorded as "more than seven people" had severe burns in their bodies.

Yobe State governor Ibrahim Gaidam visited the hospital soon after the incident, to sympathize with victims of the blast. The state governor condemned the bomb attack, pledging that government will foot the medical bills of all the victims.

Saturday's attack was the deadliest since the Nigerian military commenced the routing of Boko Haram members from the northeastern axis of the African most populous country.
