Baku, Azerbaijan, May 7
By Jamilya Aliyeva - Trend:
Swiss Olympic Committee is sure that Azerbaijan will be a very fine and well prepared host of the first European Games in Baku, the press service of the committee told Trend May 7.
"We certainly expect strong performances from our athletes and good results," the press service said. "But for some of our athletes competing at the European Games in Baku is not all about the result itself but also about gaining experience at a multisport event like this."
Swiss Olympic is sure that the European Games in Baku will be something special, said the press service.
"The fact that Olympic and non-Olympic sports (as beach soccer) are part of the Games will make it a very fresh and interesting event," according to the press service.
Baku 2015 is the first-ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent that will take place on June 12-28, 2015.
There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.
Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
