Next Round of Negotiations to Define Caspian Sea Status between  Azerbaijan and   Turkmenistan

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Agayeva / The next round of talks on the status of the Caspian Sea will be held between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan in Baku.

The press-secretary of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, Khazar Ibrahim, said in an interview with journalists that the agreement to hold the next round of talks demonstrates that we are on right track.

Bilateral negotiations between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan to define the Caspian Sea status were held in Ashgabat.

The issue to define the juridical status of the Caspian Sea rose after collapse of the Soviet Union. Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Russia signed an agreement on the issues on 14 May 2003.

An agreement has not been achieved with Iran and Turkmenistan.
