Fraternal relations between Turkey and Azerbaijan are proven by the history, said the President of the Federation of Turkey-Azerbaijan Communities Bilal Dundar.
"History confirms the friendship between Turkey and Azerbaijan,"the President of the Federation of Turkey-Azerbaijan Communities Dundar said to press conference in Baku.
Every year on April 24 Armenians mark anniversary of the so-called "genocide", falsifying historical facts, making baseless claims against Ankara. In 2006, Turkish Prime Minister Rajap Tayyip Erdogan appealed to the President of Armenia with a proposal to establish a joint commission, but the Armenian side rejected this proposal, stating that it had no doubt in the interpretation of this event.
Dundar said that the development of relations between Turkey and Armenia over the recent period warns Turkey and Azerbaijan.
"A survey conducted in Turkey showed that 96 percent of the population is against opening the borders," he said.
Dundar said that there are certain forces preventing the relations of Turkey and Azerbaijan. Opening borders is possible only after the solution of the Nagorno-Karabakh problem.
"If the officials highlight non-opening of borders, any opening of the borders can not be topic of discussions," he said.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.
