Georgia, Tbilisi, April 14 (Trend, N. Kirtskhalia)
What amount of indebtedness Elbit Systems Ltd., one of the biggest Israeli defensive companies, demands from Georgia is not specified exactly yet, Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Nino Kalandadze told a briefing today.
"The Foreign Minister of Georgia is not a participant of this transaction; however, we know that neither amount of debt nor what transaction it originated from has been identified", she said.
Elbit Systems Ltd., one of the biggest Israeli companies specialized in production of defensive systems, announced on April 8 that it challenges about $100 million from the Government of Georgia and thereby filed a lawsuit to the UK High Justice Court.
"The lawsuit is filed as the Government of Georgia did not pay for the productions supplied by Elbit Systems to Georgia in accordance with the terms of several contracts concluded in 2007", Elbit Systems reported in a press release.
No other details are reported in the press release; however, it is known that Georgia bought unmanned reconnaissance planes Hermes 450 from the Israeli company. President Mikhail Saakashvili reported in April 2008 that Georgia had around 40 such reconnaissance aircraft. Of this number, at least three (the Abkhazian side claims seven) planes were shot down over Abkhazia in March-May 2008.
