The GUAM mission will arrive in Azerbaijan on Monday to observe the presidential election, Secretary General of the organisation Valeri Chechelashvili, who heads the mission told Trend.

"The Organisation for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM has already formed a mission for the short term observation of the presidential election in Azerbaijan. The group includes MPs of the Ukraine and Georgia," he said.

The presidential election in Azerbaijan will be held on October 9.

According to him, during the mission, the GUAM delegation will hold meetings in CEC, polling stations and will observe the voting process on Election Day. The mission will hold a briefing and issue a statement on the results of the election on October 9.

The presidential elections in Azerbaijan are held every five years. Azerbaijani citizens who have higher education, who have been permanently residing in the country for more than 10 years, who have not been convicted on a serious crime, not having any obligations to other states and those who do not have double citizenship are entitled to the right to be elected to the post of president of Azerbaijan.

Previous presidential elections were held on October 15, 2008.
