Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. К.Zarbaliyeva / A petition demanding medical treatment for Ali Insanov, the Azerbaijani former Health Minister, was lodged during the hearing on the lawsuit of Insanov against Fikrat Mammadov, the Justice Minister, and the Penal Service.
Insanov's attorney, Agaveys Shahverdi, said that Insanov requires medical treatment during the court trial presided by Judge Mammad Mammadov, at Nasimi District Court.
The court will make its final decision regarding the petition on 20 September. Etibar Garayev, the chief of Investigation Cell 1, represents Fikrat Mammadov, the Justice Minister, and Agammamad Mammadov, the deputy chief of the cell represents the Penal Service at the trial.
Insanov added that he was subjected to torment due to jagged statements from close relative of the Azerbaijani Justice Minister, Jamil Aliyev.
Insanov was detained in October, 2005. He was accused of attempting a coup d'etat and causing mass riots. At the decision of the Azerbaijani Court on Heinous Crimes on 20 April, Ali Insanov was found guilty of appropriation of property and abuse of power and sentenced to 11 years imprisonment. He is currently being detained at the Bail Isolation Cell 1 of the Penitentiary Service of Azerbaijan. He demands to be transferred to the Patient Care Institution of the Penitentiary Service. Medical examinations on him have proved that he suffers from a vertebral hernia.
