Jingjing Guo and Minxia Wu defended their 2004 Olympic title as China had a successful start into its bid to sweep the eight diving events at the Beijing Olympics.

Yulia Pakhalina and Anastasia Pozdnyakova got silver for Russia with 323,61 points and Germany finally got on the Olympic medal table with as Ditte Kotzian and Heike took bronze with 318.90 points.

"We are in China, our own country. We are proud to win the gold here. We worked and trained very hard for this every day," said Gao.

China is not only out for another big event diving supremacy, Guo will also have some personal goals.

If she wins the 3m individual event like four years ago, she will be the best-decorated diver in Olympic history with four golds and two silvers.

Comaptriot Fu Mingxa and American legend Greg Louganis are on 4-1- 0 and another American, Patricia McCormick, on 4-0-0. The most medals are with Russian Dmitri Sautin on 2-1-4.

"I haven't really thought a lot about it," said Guo, who has celebrity status in China. "Of course there will be some pressure. I hope this pressure can become motivation. I hope to be very calm."
