Although only 2,600 medicals are registered for sale in Azerbaijan, over 5,000 types of medications are actually sold in drugstores, Trend reports quoting Musa Guliyev, deputy head of permanent commission for social policy with Milli Medjlis, speaking April 25 at debates on the law draft В"Medical ProductsВ".

Guliyev said passing this law must eliminate all disorder in the countrys drug market. The law was drawn based on current legislation of Estonia and Byelorussia. Guliyev said also drugs annually sold in the country amount $150mln.

The law draft В"Medical ProductsВ" is widely debated now. MP Fazil Gazanfaroglu said Azerbaijan imported 95% of total volume of drugs today. В"With its rich resources and nature, Azerbaijan does not produce any drugsВ", - he said, adding that drugs imported to Azerbaijan are awful. Gazanfaroglu offered bringing together the laws В"Medical ProductsВ" and В"Pharmaceutical activityВ" as these laws are similar by nature. He also suggested opening at least one governmental drugstore in each region. В"Most physicians are working with private drugstores and recommend their patients purchase medications in there, despite the lack of financesВ", - MP said.

Other deputies speaking on this matter outlined uncontrolled situation in drug market, illegal import of drugs and their illegal production in the country.

Following the debates, the law draft was passed in first reading.
