BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 17. Value of food products imported by Azerbaijan decreased by 2.32 percent ($37.48 million), from January through September 2023, reaching $1.57 billion, Trend reports.
The data from the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan showed that in the reporting period, the country imported 30,240 tons of meat (up by 4.57 percent) worth $60.1 million (an increase of 15.84 percent), 9,200 tons of milk (a growth of 24.73 percent) worth $18.7 million (an increase of 44.42 percent), 12,040 tons of dairy products (a decline of 14.1 percent) - $67.19 million (a decrease of 17 percent), 229,697 tons of vegetables and fruits (a decrease of 11.33 percent) - $153.2 million (a decline of 6.91 percent), 9,710 tons of tea (a decline of 10.32 percent) worth more than $50.8 million (a decrease of 8.28 percent).
In addition, Azerbaijan also imported more than 903,000 tons of wheat, corn, and rice worth over $271 million.
The import of vegetable fats and oils amounted to 106,490 tons, worth more than $136.16 million.
Azerbaijan's foreign trade turnover decreased by 1.79 percent or $711.06 million from January through September 2023 year-on-year - from $39.8 billion to $39.1 billion.
The data of State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan showed that exports accounted for $26.48 billion in the structure of foreign trade turnover, which is $3 billion or 10.27 percent less year-on-year. The share of exports in the foreign trade turnover amounted to 67.74 percent against 74.15 percent a year earlier.
Azerbaijan's imports in the reporting period increased by $2.3 billion or 22.55 percent year-on-year from $10.29 billion to about $12.6 billion. The share of imports in the foreign trade turnover amounted to 32.26 percent against 25.85 percent a year earlier.
As a result, the balance of foreign trade turnover, while remaining positive during the review period, declined year-on-year by over $5.35 billion or 27.84 percent to $13.8 billion against $19.2 billion in the 2022 review period.
