Turkish Orbak Metal to purchase cooper from Uzbekistan

Representatives of the Turkish Orbak Metal Tasimacilik Ve Ins Sanayi Yicaret Ltd. Company held talks with the management of Almalik Mining and Metallurgical Plant (AMMP) OJSC.

Orbak Metal and AMMP agreed on further mutually beneficial cooperation. This is a direct supply of cathode copper produced at the plant.

"In the past three years Orbak Metal was well acquainted with main products of Almalik mining and metallurgical plant, said head of the Turkish Selahitdin Tavuzboy company. The purpose of our visit is a cooperative and direct purchase of high-quality copper."

The volume and value of the contract are not disclosed.

The Almalik Mining and Metallurgical Plant is the second largest (after Navoi company) mining and metallurgical enterprise in Uzbekistan. The plant is the sole producer of copper in the country. JSC extracts copper, lead and zinc and gold-silver fields in Tashkent, Jizak and Namangan regions. The company produces refined copper (cathode) and zinc metal, lead concentrate. The share of AMMP accounted for about 90 per cent of production of silver, and 20 percent of gold in the country. Over 70 percent of products exported abroad.

In 2007, about 90,300 tons of cathode copper was produced at the plant, the Uzbek State Geology Committee reported to Trend . The record production of cathode copper in the country occurred in 2005 - 103,800 tons.
