EU not calls into question present energy security system: European Commission chairman
Europe is ready to discuss new initiatives on energy cooperation, but does not call into question the effectiveness of the existing system of energy security, RIA Novosti quoted President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso as saying at a press conference on results of the Russia-EU summit in Khabarovsk.
"We are ready to discuss Russia's proposals. We are ready to discuss how to improve the existing framework, but we should not discard those agreements that already exist", Barroso said.
"We adhere to these agreements. We are ready to discuss proposals, but should rather build on existing (agreements), without calling into question the system that exists," he said.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev confirmed Russia's position to design new agreements on energy security as current documents particularly Energy Charter are not efficient any more.
