Uzbekistan, Slovenia sign agreement on avoidance of double taxation

Last week Uzbekistan and Slovenia signed an intergovernmental agreement on the avoidance of double taxation and prevention of tax evasion on income and capital, the press service of the State Tax Committee (STC) of Uzbekistan announced.

According to the press service, the document was signed by Botir Parpiev , chairman of STC, and Marko Pogacnik, State Secretary of Slovenian Ministry of Finance.

During the meeting, both sides stressed the importance of the document to increase mutual investments in the economy of both countries, achievements of long term cooperation, promoting the development and deepening of economic, industrial, scientific, technological and cultural cooperation.

The Slovenian side was provided with detailed information on the main provisions of the anti-crisis programme which allowed the maintenance of high rates of economic growth despite the global economic crisis, as well as tax benefits and preferences provided by the republic for foreign investors.

Slovenia showed interest to the information on the activities of the Navoi free industrial economic zone (FIEZ) and Angren special economic zone (SEZ).

The State Secretary of the Ministry of Finance stressed that the agreement will serve as a positive step for the further strengthening of economic relations and increase of investment and economic activity of Slovenian companies in Uzbekistan.

Director of the Slovenian Tax Administration gave assurances that "the Ministry of Finance will send the submitted materials to the Ministry of Economy and the Chamber of Commerce of Slovenia for distribution to potential Slovenian investors. This should certainly be of interest to the business community of the country," the STC press service reported.

In addition, Pogacnik supported the Uzbek side's proposal on the exchange of experiences between the tax authorities of two countries and expressed the willingness to examine the proposals of Uzbek side, especially on issues of cooperation.
