The construction of the GEVO locomotive diesel engine production plant was launched in Kazakh city of Astana on Thursday, Prime Minister's press-service reported.
Kazakh Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov took part in the opening ceremony of the commemorative plaque on the construction site of the plant.
The plant is scheduled to start production in December 2014. The relevant agreement was signed in Astana last year. The plant will produce 300 units of eight-, twelve-, and sixteen-cylinder engines per year. The capacity of the engines will range from 2200 to 4500 kW and their rate speed will be between 950 r/min and 1050 r/min.
The company plans to export its products to all post-Soviet countries and Mongolia. The local content will amount to 8 percent by 2015, and increase to 51 percent by 2020.
"I am sure the new plant will give further impetus to the development of the industry, create new job places, increase productivity," Akhmetov said at the event.
The Prime Minister also noted that Kazakhstan would continue to pursue a consistent policy to improve business and investment climate conditions and expressed readiness to expand cooperation with foreign investors.
