Kazakhstan plans to harvest at least 17.2 mln metric tons of grain in 2015

Kazakhstan plans to harvest at least 17.2 million metric tons of grain in 2015, Kazakh Agriculture Vice Minister Saparhan Omarov said.

"In the past year the gross yield amounted to 17.2 million metric tons of grain, and this year we expect that the gross grain harvest will not be lower than last year," Novosti-Kazakhstan news agency quoted Omarov as saying at a briefing on March 31.

He noted that according to the Hydrometeorological Service, the sufficient precipitations occurred in autumn and winter and snow cover all the regions of the country except Akmola and Kostanay regions were higher than last year.

"As a result the soil moisture, reserves in all regions are expected to be satisfactory for the period of spring field work in 2015," Omarov said.

Kazakhstan is among the world's major grain exporters. In 2014, Kazakhstan harvested 17.162 million metric tons of cereals and legumes, which is 5.9 percent less than in 2013. In the total amount of the harvest of cereals and legumes collected last year, proportion of wheat was 75.7 percent.
