Trend:

Bringing back revenues from the exports of Iran's handmade carpets is definitely on the agenda, Iran's Deputy Minister of Industry, Mining and Trade Hossein Moddares Khiabani said, Trend reports via ILNA.

The government has nothing to do with the production, trade and export of carpets, but it should act as a facilitator and help the private sector, said the official.

"The Export Development Working Group, similar to the Market Regulation Headquarters of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran, has been formed to address the foreign trade issues,” he added.

"If there is no permanent council between the government and the private sector, the issue of handmade carpets cannot be easily resolved," he said. "If you are going to fundamentally resolve the issues and challenges facing handmade carpets in the shortest time possible, a permanent council should meet weekly to discuss issues on a case-by-case basis.”

Head of National Carpet Center of Iran, Fereshteh Dastpak said that 3.5 million square meters of carpets are woven in the country every year.

Dastpak mentioned the development of online sales as one of the most serious plans to expand the domestic and foreign sales markets.
