It is planned to purchase 330,000 tons of wheat from farmers in Iran’s Markazi province in current planting year, said Gholamreza Maleki, Director for Department of Government Trading Corporation of Iran’s Markazi Province, Trend reports citing the corporation’s website.
According to Maleki, last planting year, 305,000 tons of wheat were purchased from farmers in the province.
Maleki added that the wheat harvest in the province will begin in late May and will last until mid-September.
"As many as 32 centers have been identified in the province for the purchase of wheat from farmers," he said.
The official said that the province's annual wheat consumption is 150,000 tons. The rest is sent to other provinces of Iran.
The price of ordinary wheat to be purchased from farmers in the current planting year is set between 25,000 rials (about 59 cents) and 26,000 rials (about 61 cents) per kilogram of durum wheat in Iran in the current Iranian year.
A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice and other products, are purchased from farmers by a state company under a guarantee in Iran.
There are 670,000 hectares of garden and agricultural land in Iran's Markazi province.
