Iran expects exports to increase by summer's end

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 17

By Elnur Baghishov –Trend:

Iran's exports are expected to increase by the end of the summer, Chairman of the Iran Export Confederation Mohammad Lahuti told Tejaratnews agency, Trend reports.

According to Lahuti, the volume of exports in the second half of the current Iranian year (from September 22, 2020 to March 21, 2021) may reach the same figures as those of the same period the previous year.

Lahuti added that Iran's exports fell to a maximum during the 12th month of last Iranian year (February 20 - March 19, 2020) and the second month of current Iranian year (March 20 - May 20, 2020). During this period, the exports fell by about 50 percent compared to the preceding period.

The chairman said that of course, the coronavirus was not unique to Iran, and it has had a negative impact on world trade.

"However, Iran's borders have been gradually opened, and by the beginning of the third month (May 21, 2020), 80 percent of Iran's exports have returned to normal and exports have increased," he said.

Lahuti said that the rising foreign exchange prices help Iran's exports.

Iran exported 9.17 million tons of products worth $2.64 billion in two months (April 20-May 20, 2020). During the period, Iran imported 3.87 million tons of products worth $3.11 billion.

Iran exported 133 million tons of products worth $41.3 billion in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020). Iran also imported 35.3 million tons of products worth $43.7 billion last year.
