Georgian Walnuts company plans to maintain eco-friendly production, which means not using herbicides in walnut orchards anymore, Trend reports via Georgian media.

As the Head of the company Davit Bukhnikashvili said, the company will start using organic fertilizers in 2021.

"The first stage will be a testing one, in 2021, maybe in 2022 we won't be using herbicides at all. This is a huge challenge since those types of orchards can not work without herbicides industrially," declares Bukhnikashvili.

Currently, the company already owns walnut orchards in the region of Sagarejo. For January 2021, the total area of walnut orchards will be 150 hectares.

Walnuts employs 20 people, and additionally, up to 40 locals are employed during the period of spring and summer. The total price of the investment is 12 million lari ($3.6 million), which is implemented together with German and Australian partners.

Walnuts team consists of both international and Georgian entrepreneurs from a variety of backgrounds including agriculture, investment, law and corporate finance.
