(autoinsidernews) - The Chinese car market is now the worlds 2nd largest and Chinas First Auto Works wowed its hometown of Changchun with the unveiling of its latest creation the unmanned car. The unmanned vehicle is a modified Hongqi HQ3, and the driverless sedan has been tested at speeds up to 37 mph, but First Auto Works claims that the vehicle can reach 93 mph, reports Trend.
According to the Shanghai Daily newspaper, the car uses two onboard cameras to monitor the road, and receives instructions from a computer. It has a strong ability to recognize the environment around it and tackle turnoffs [and] street crossings, as well as broken lines instantly. Its also able to adapt to changes of driving attitude and natural lighting, as well as shadows of trees and bridges.
This all sounds cool, and on a specially designed road this sounds great. But how safe would you feel with a computer controlling a 2-ton vehicle? We still would rather drive ourselves, but eventually everyone in the car is likely to be a passenger.
